Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2011

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2011 collection was unfurled just a few days ago. But some of you might be wondering what exactly is this season, especially the non-fashion folk. Pre-fall collections used to be shown mainly to buyers and editors and is a collection shown before the Fall/Winter season much like the Resort/Cruise collection which is shown before the Spring/Summer season. The collection is much more commercial than the ready-to-wear collections and so you guessed it- they are much more wearable and targeted at people like you! It is to fill the void left after Summer and before Fall, somewhere around June and July where the collection actually hits the stores. It is also sometimes a sneak peek at what we are going to expect come February when the Spring/Summer collections start to roll out.

Gets me excited because the clothes are just so wearable and yet creativity and design is not compromised and you know that come February you are gonna have the full blown show when the designer goes all out! It’s sometimes good to come back to just clothes that are targeted at selling; that would prove to be a hit with most people (with what-would-the-consumer-want-to-wear mindset). It could be said to be one of the most profitable seasons of the fashion calendar. Some of you might not notice this but some of the clothes that you have bought might actually be from the Pre-Fall collection.

Now back to Alexander Wang. First it must be noted that this is his largest Pre-Fall collection to date with 27 looks (this is his third Pre-Fall by the way). Hoping to increase profits I reckon? Shown at his studio in SoHo, the collection was titled ‘Rough Refinement’.

Stonewash denim, leather biker jackets and slim-cut blazers (signature A Wang), some cut sleeveless.

Sheer and mesh tops (looks set to be a hot trend this season)

Slashed capri pants, drawstring tapered pants, tailored trousers.

And my favourite -midi length dresses (love that leather shirtdress with sheer sleeves! [photo after the jump]), some with the cowl neckline, overlay detailing and one particular dark teal green dress with draping on both sides matched together at the centre with what i think is a zipper or metallic detail (sarong-style?). This style was also transferred onto a cream blazer which I absolutely love.

The colour palette is mostly muted and monochromatic with lots of black, dark brown, khaki, cream, orange and a dash of dark teal. Totally love the silhouette, angular, straight up and down. Hemlines of the outers and dresses are ending exactly perfect to create that feminine but edgy look. If you wear that orange midi dress with the black booties, the whole look stands out subtly and sorta unconventional in a way but yet fierce and strong. Maybe sorta of like the feminine version of new editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, Emmanuelle Alt. What do you think? Could she work the Alexander Wang look?

Now on to the accessories. It was classic Alexander Wang again. Black through and through (one shoe had a white tip though). Love the cut-out heel and four-buckle open-toed bootie. The strap-py heels seem normal enough but overall shoes are definitely going to be a sell-out I’m telling ya!

How about the new update of the Diego -the Robin (or is it Robyn) hobo! Okay you can’t really see it from here but I can bet cha it’s gonna be a hit. Notice the metallic corners at the base?

And the rest of this awesome collection.

“We worked around our core pieces, but have given them a softer femininity. It’s our best-selling pieces with a lighter hand and a new femininity,” Alexander Wang said.

Let’s hope this ‘new femininity’ will be a hit and give his growing business an extra boost ahead of the Fall/Winter showcase. But I’m sure his fans will definitely be pleased with his latest showing. The ‘Alexander Wang’ girl is set to rock!

P.S.: With white set to be a rocking colour for 2011, check out the Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2011 \’Whitewash\’ collection which should be available in stores early next month and most probably coincide with his flagship store opening during New York Fashion Week.
