‘The Fashion Body as Memento Mori’ by Christopher Breward

FASHION HISTORIAN

I had earlier posted about SHOWstudio‘s film project The Fashion Body and only realised later that this project has a essay accompaniment to complement the film segment. These essays have no relation to the films showcased. They are purely for knowledge and ‘to spark debate in their own right’. Interesting and innovative concept if you ask me and I’m all for it. Who would have thought that fashion could be portrayed as something more intellectual? The first essay is ‘The Fashion Body as Memento Mori’ by Christopher Breward who is a fashion historian (I didn’t know they existed). This is really heavy reading. Click HERE to read! Kudos once again to Nick Knight and co.

The Fashion Body- Right Hand by Nick Knight

SHOWstudio.com's Nick Knight

That is the title of SHOWstudio.com‘s latest film project and the first film from the project. Short films will be created by contributors such as Lady Gaga, Lily Cole, Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh and other leading personalities to celebrate a specific part of the human body. This series has just debuted this summer, and will air every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I think it is a brilliant idea- a fashion on film series and none other than SHOWstudio.com’s director and visionary photographer Nick Knight to start the ball rolling. Click HERE to watch the first film of the series- Right Hand by NIck Knight. It is high time we had more of fashion in that kind of media.
