The Vogue Italia July 2012 Collections main editorial shot by Steven Meisel, featuring the Fall/Winter 2012/2013 collections has got to be one of the best editorials to date this year –if not the whole of this year.

Vogue Italia December 2011 | Karlie Kloss by Steven Meisel

Karlie Kloss, Steven Meisel, Vogue Italia December 2011 cover

Karlie Kloss has come of age in the Vogue Italia December 2011 issue. Clad in Valentino, she strikes up a fearsome pose reminiscent of Gisele Bundchen on the cover. The talking point however is the editorial spread inside, aptly titled Body.

Shot by Steven Meisel, Karlie Kloss captivates in the buff in what seems to be her first time intentionally baring her breasts. “Too young” (she’s 19; 15 when she burst on the scene), “she’s anorexic” and “overly photoshopped” were the main arguments. I see her as having a well-toned body, albeit aided by photoshop (which models aren’t) and a versatile model who has finally matured. It must also be noted that she is a Victoria’s Secret model; enough said. So I say enough of the criticism and see what Karlie Kloss has become –a fine model looking to make her mark as one of the elites. I can only imagine what 2012 has installed for her. Check out the 18-page spread of Karlie Kloss by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia December 2011 below.

Vogue Italia September 2011 | Stella Tennant by Steven Meisel

Vogue Italia September 2011, Stella Tennant, Steven Meisel, Karl Templer

Stella Tennant stars in a bizarre editorial titled The Discipline of Fashion  and covers for Vogue Italia September 2011. Shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer, the Stella Tennant for Vogue Italia September 2011 editorial is inspired by Ethel Granger, the girl with the smallest waist, measuring at just 13 inches. Her ultra thin waist was a product of years of wearing a corset. This and her facial piercings were a result of her husband’s peculiar fashion fetishes. Read more about Ethel Granger at vogue.it.

Vogue Italia has done it again, deviating from the norm with yet another thought-provoking and controversial editorial. I find this extremely disturbing but rest assured; on watching the behind-the-scenes video (scroll to the end of the post for the video), you would realise that Stella Tennant’s waist has been photoshopped a great deal. The corset probably also accounted for the somewhat weird poses that she does. Planking is also featured once again in a fashion spread here to my delight and amusement. Pretty anti-climax if you ask me.

With these stunning visuals, more often than not, the clothes are lost into oblivion. Stella Tennant wears Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci, Alberta Ferretti and Moschino among others. Check out the Stella Tennant for Vogue Italia September 2011 editorial and be sure to watch the behind-the-scenes video below to see for yourself. Read about the cover story at vogue.it.

Robyn Lawley | Vogue Australia September 2011

Plus-sized model, Robyn Lawley, Vogue Australia September 2011, Max Doyle

Plus-sized model Robyn Lawley is at it again, this time for the Vogue Australia September 2011 issue. Fresh from her recent Vogue Italia June cover and editorial shoot, Robyn Lawley stars in a 10-page fashion spread titled Belle Curve garbed in designer wear shot by Max Doyle. It must be noted that this is the first time Vogue Australia in all its 52-year history has featured a plus-sized model in a fashion editorial. Exciting stuff. The fashion editorial is also accompanied by a 2-page interview with Robyn Lawley.

The recent plus-sized model craze and Robyn Lawley’s rise to fame is definitely getting on and I must say these models look good. But I believe it would be a different story for Asians or people who are not as tall as Robyn Lawley is. No doubt Robyn Lawley is a US 12/UK 16 size but she is also 6’/1.82m tall. I’m just wondering if vertically challenged or petite women will look as good as these plus-sized models we see in magazines. So instead of featuring plus-sized models, how about a fashion editorial featuring petite models? And how about taking it a step further with a fashion spread on petite plus-sized models? Thoughts?

Emma Watson for Vogue

I had to double-take when I first saw the cover of  Vogue US July 2011. With hair sleeked back (she still has a short pixie hairdo) and dark red lips, it is a side of Emma Watson that few have seen. At the age of 21, Emma Watson bags her first Vogue cover in the American edition for the month of July 2011. Photographed by Mario Testino, Emma is dressed in Prada Fall 2011 for the cover shoot. I really like this cover. Emma Watson all grown up (I know cliché) and glamourous. It’s one of those covers that you won’t get sick of looking at. One of the best covers so far this year from Vogue and of course I adore anything that Mario Testino shoots.

Emma in her ‘best’ high fashion pose wearing a Prada Fall 2011 dress.

Emma in a dress from Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 jewel and crystal dress, Solange Azagury-Partridge accessories and jewel encrusted Alexander McQueen thigh-high boots.

Emma in a Aquilano.Rimondi dress, Solange Azagury-Partridge accessories and jewel encrusted Alexander McQueen thigh-high boots.

Emma in a Calvin Klein Fall 2011 dress, Lynn Ban bracelets and Miu Miu heels.

Emma in a Tom Ford top and Undercover skirt carrying a Louis Vuitton clutch.

In the accompanying article, Emma talks about her love for the arts-she’s a painter, the Harry Potter franchise and her struggles balancing work and education as well as her personal life. It was a very intimate interview and I like Vogue US for that. Read the full article, Emma Watson’s New Day at vogue.com

Although this is her first cover for Vogue, Emma previously appeared in an editorial in Vogue Italia back in September 2008. This marks the first time she has worked with Vogue. Photographed by Mark Seliger, Emma models couture. I believe this is probably her first major break in her dabble with fashion.

‘I’ve been focusing on art a lot, and fashion’s a great extension of that’ -Emma Watson

Since then, Emma Watson has ventured further in fashion; being involved in various editorials. Apart from being photographed by Karl Lagefeld for Crash magazine, she also landed a contract to launch three collections for fair trade and eco-friendly label People Tree (her third and final collection was launched early this year), including a collaboration with Alberta Ferretti. She was also most noted for becoming the face of Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2009 and Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaigns (ads shot by Mario Testino) and most recently signed a contract to be the face of Lancôme (ads also shot by Mario Testino).

Harry Potter, fashion designing and modeling, education at an Ivy League college (although she put that on hold for a while), she certainly has a lot on her plate! An inspiration for all aspiring upstarts. And I thought juggling writing/blogging, school and part-time work was hard.

*Update* Check out Lara Stone in a film noir inspired editorial in the very same issue of Vogue.
